Wow, Andrew, Great post with a lot of things in it that I had been planning to post on. Now it looks like I need to do that post here. The first thing is I am deeply honored to be mentioned alongside Brian. I mean, I've tried to be Handibot's best fan, but Brian is an engineer and damn good at it. There is nothing in your post that I vehemently disagree with, I just don'by Mark Evans - Handibot Forum
I agree with Brian on everything except I've never had good luck with lube including WD40. It tends to make chips stay in the grove and get recut. (as always, take both sides and find what works for you) I blow on it with compressed air to both cool and clear the chips. How much luck you have after proper setup is much to do with the aluminum itself, some formulations do quite well bby Mark Evans - Handibot Forum
I simply can't express how thankful I am for the help here. I've ordered the parts I need to get up and running and after that, I will get to work on this. I don't know yet if I will build to your spec. or just use this as inspiration but either way it is a huge help.by Mark Evans - Handibot Forum
Okay, lots of ground to cover and I hope others chime in so you will have a variety of opinions. 1) Okay, in my opinion, the Handibot will be one of the safest power tools in your shop. That is not to say things can't go wrong, just that they will go wrong slower than on say a table saw. A couple of thoughts here, always make sure the bit is correctly installed in the collet, the rightby Mark Evans - Handibot Forum
>>>>What do you think affects Handibot's popularity compared to the Bantam (othermill) or Nomad or Carvey? I’ve thought about this all day and I think that I may be uniquely unqualified to answer this. I mean I choose the Handibot twice over other cnc projects. I think a lot of things factor in but I’d love to hear from someone who seriously considered the Handibot butby Mark Evans - Handibot Forum
I can’t thank you enough for this, right now we are locked out of the documents though as the permittions is not public.by Mark Evans - Handibot Forum
I’m just glad you are okay! Had a friend in another circle who went quite and when we tracked him down he was in the hospital in a coma! I tend to be a bit paranoid now! Btw he’s out and continues to recover. Also, while I’m glad that Shopbot continues to do well, I hate that the Handibot has not done better. As Handibot’s official fan boy I’ve always thought it should be the most popular hobbby Mark Evans - Handibot Forum
Has anyone heard from Brian? He last tweeted on the 17th then nothing.by Mark Evans - Handibot Forum
Unless the unit has been officially transferred to the maker space I don't know if you will be able to download Vcarve or not? Most any software that will produce G code will work but Vcarve is far and away the best. Maybe (and I'm not staff so I can't promise), but maybe with the SN, you can get the unit transferred. As to the SB software, I am guessing that the board will neeby Mark Evans - Handibot Forum
I like questions that are so easy that I can answer them! All you have to do is download the font, install the font in windows, (merely double clicking on the file will bring up a window from which you can install it) bring up Vcarve after the install is complete and the font will show up in your choices.by Mark Evans - Handibot Forum
That is an anti-backlash something-something. Yes, they will sell you one. I've always found that the best way to get things like this going with them is to make a voice phone call to them. They will probably want to move to an email from there so you can provide that photo. Anyway, I have found their customer service to be second to none and they will get you fixed up.by Mark Evans - Handibot Forum
I have gotten so used to doing things in Fusion that I didn't even realize that you can do the same thing in Vcarve. Thanx for pointing that out!by Mark Evans - Handibot Forum
Yes! Vcarve is a great program but it is ill-equipped for doing this. It is a semi-advanced thing but with Fusion 360 you can photograph your shape and then trace it and get a good fit. I know it sounds like a lot to learn a new program for this but imo everyone should be using Fusion 360 to put their ideas together and then just using Vcarve for the final mile. In other words, anythinby Mark Evans - Handibot Forum
Nice jig and solution to a problem. I still have the hand strength to not need this but if I didn't I'd sure be coping it!by Mark Evans - Handibot Forum
Yes, I hope Brian will jump in as there are several settings either in the handibot or Vcave that can make it not respond to bit selection. He (staff) is much better than me on tracking things like this down.by Mark Evans - Handibot Forum
Vcarve has a pretty extensive library that works well for first guess. A couple of rules of thumb: generally don’t cut deeper than 1x diameter. For most operations, run the router wide open. If you get any scorching your feed is too slow, too fast has an unique sound that tends to induced panic.by Mark Evans - Handibot Forum
Rob, I'm going to do my best to help you answer this as you are the only one who can. I loved mine but then I used the rotory/4th axis a lot so it was worth it for me right there. As to lifting the handibot just a bit and holding your work, the base can be useful but if you are sure that you are not going to ever want to use the 4th axis I'd pass on it at this point as I know I coulby Mark Evans - Handibot Forum

Jake, you should try out DeskProto, it is free for 30 days but the hobby license is about $300. Like Vcarve or Aspire, it does its job so well that you may well find it worth it.by Mark Evans - Handibot Forum
This is going to get a very thorough read when I get the chance. It looks like a lot of thought went into this and I'll thank you even before the detailed read.by Mark Evans - Handibot Forum
Cobb, in your second photo, it sure looks like the X gantry is against the right-hand stop. Since the machine is brand new to you I'd suggest doing what we call air cuts to get to know the machine without wasting a lot of wood. Set the Z up high so that when a file runs it won't contact wood and turn off the router so you can play in relative quiet. Now you can drive the x and Y arby Mark Evans - Handibot Forum
On the web interface, aka dashboard. Over near the other controls on the right. I don't think there are hardware lights for this.by Mark Evans - Handibot Forum
Sorry I am not where I can provide a screenshot but over on the right near where you drive the axis around there are some input/output lights. They will be green or red depending on their state. To find them, push the red stop button and one of these will flash red and then go back to green when you release it. So, on that row of red and green lights, if #5 is already red things are not going toby Mark Evans - Handibot Forum
Brian, you very much have my attention! I'll be looking forward to seeing whatever you come up with. Kind of a shame I'm heading out of town for a few days as I have to leave all my toys homeby Mark Evans - Handibot Forum
Very nice John, glad someone has broken the seal on doing these. I don't have a Festool table and at $700 I doubt I will but I love the simple concept.by Mark Evans - Handibot Forum
Not yet but I desperately need to. Maybe over the holidays, I can make some progress.by Mark Evans - Handibot Forum

I had not thought about it for a while but I lost my desktop computer to computer sudden death syndrome (CSDS) last night so as I am loading up the new one with the software I noticed that Vcarve 9 is showing available at the main shopbot sight. So, what do we need to do to upgrade? Thanxby Mark Evans - Handibot Forum
Eric: thanx, your channel is quite the treasure trove of what I was looking for. Bryan: I hope you do it sooner than later. Post a link if/when you do. Bill: I think you are too modest for your own good. I'll continue to study your stuff and glean what I can. If you ever do decide to do a full blog post on this I'll be tickled.by Mark Evans - Handibot Forum
