Steve, I'm trying to get set up on our github repository so that I can upload everything I've created for the tool...in the meantime you can grab the model of handibot here:by Brian Owen, ShopBot - Handibot Forum
Phil, I've never cut concrete with a handibot...so I'm not sure about how well regular router bits will do with the grit and hardness. We did cut something called "polycrete" for a guy a few months ago: As far as the set up...the only complication that I can see is keeping your tool level to the paver that you're carving in. If the entire tool can be set on aby Brian Owen, ShopBot - Handibot Forum
Also, anyone who has dropbox can give this link a try:by Brian Owen, ShopBot - Handibot Forum
Jason, Folks at work are telling me that this link didn't work either...I'll try emailing a download link to you directly...for now, anyone else who wants the model can just request an email here. I'm looking for a good way to host the large fileby Brian Owen, ShopBot - Handibot Forum
Let me try again... I'm also looking for a place to host the step file for the whole model. I'll try to get it posted later today.by Brian Owen, ShopBot - Handibot Forum
Mark, I need to get more into Fusion as well. I know that David Preiss (who currently works over at ShopBot) has dabbled in it quite a bit and even went to the AutoDesk-U event in Las Vegas late last year. I've got my process so firmly down in moving between my 3D CAD (geomagic) and vCarve that I've been slow to look into the added efficiency that Fusion could provide.by Brian Owen, ShopBot - Handibot Forum
Mark, I think re-selling would be a great option (plus you'd get a brand new tool!) I'm not sure what handibots go for these days, but in the past I've seen people sell them for a pretty healthy return. Of course you can always feel free to post tools for sale here on the forum as well. Brianby Brian Owen, ShopBot - Handibot Forum
Boris, I can understand why you’d be a little apprehensive about waiting on a trade-in for your handibot v1. As many inside and outside of handibot will point out, we’ve never been that good at estimating our time on projects. Though it isn’t always that the projects are more complicated than we’re expecting them to be but rather that the needs around the shop shift and we find ourselves pullby Brian Owen, ShopBot - Handibot Forum
Boris, I'm sorry that you haven't received a timely response. We've been trying to work on a plan for distributing FabMo cards and I've been a bit hesitant to make a statement about it until we've got more of the details worked out. The FabMo card uses a wifi transmitter on the Edison card (mounted on the back of the fabmo card). This works well on the new handibotby Brian Owen, ShopBot - Handibot Forum
Bob, Also I'd be happy to take a look at your .crv file and see if I can figure it out. I'm always curious when something weird happens in vCarve! Brianby Brian Owen, ShopBot - Handibot Forum
Jason, Try this link: I'm not sure if it provides access to the whole project folder or just the model that I selected. The project folder is full of older prototype models, the one you want is at the top "handibot 2 assembly" and should have all of the fasteners in the model as well. Let me know how it works! Jason, Believe it or not we've been making changes to the design right up until the day of our first shipment! One that I put in place last week improves smoothness of motion in the x-axis significantly. I've informed our assembly guys about the changes and am in the process of updating our BOM and model. I'll upload it soon--Also if you haven't tried Fusion 360 yet--yoby Brian Owen, ShopBot - Handibot Forum
We're working on last tweaks to the system before our first units go out the door to customers. After that we're going to set up a virtual machine online where people can log into the fabmo interface and mess around with settings and apps.by Brian Owen, ShopBot - Handibot Forum
What we're working on is going to start out as a trade in option where we'll build a couple of handibots from refurbished parts that can be purchased for a discount with the trade-in of a handibot v1--the parts from those trade-ins will be refurbished and recycled into the next batch of trade-in exchanges. I think that we may be able to start this option up by late spring The completby Brian Owen, ShopBot - Handibot Forum
Afternoon everyone! I'm not sure how many people are up to date on the latest here at Handibot--but we're actually planning to launch the new version of the tool next Monday (for real!)! There'll be way more useful info on the main site so check it out. I mainly just wanted to share a blog post that I've been working on this afternoon with some more personal projects:by Brian Owen, ShopBot - Handibot Forum
Also Mark, I noticed that you found my step-stool/votive-holder/pasta-making video on youtube! I'd made that one weekend to share around the office but hadn't had a chance to post it here yet--in case anyone is interested: Too bad I haven't gotten the handibot to automate cooking a pasta carbonara yet...by Brian Owen, ShopBot - Handibot Forum
Mark, We're definitely interested in getting the non-rotary tool holder into more hands. We've been messing with it and discovering more and more ways to use it--holding a dragknife--holding a wood burning tool--calligraphy pens...I've told Ted that this will be my priority once we've got Handibot 2 going out the door (should be this week!!!). I'd be happy to shareby Brian Owen, ShopBot - Handibot Forum
I've been a bit under the weather lately. Stuck at home, too cold to go outside, sleet and snow keeping anyone from coming by to visit. So I had to find some way to keep from getting cabin fever--and I thought of a few funny ideas for the handibot. I thought y'all might be interested in the results. The first one is a machine that mostly just makes messes; occassionally it will ice aby Brian Owen, ShopBot - Handibot Forum
Hey Dan, sorry I didn't see this earlier! It's possible that your bearings are seizing up on the y-axis. Try a couple of things to narrow it down. First try switching the power off and pushing the handibot back and forth in the y-axis direction. If you feel some resistance there, grab the toolkit that came with your tool and take the y-bearings loose one by one by removing the 4 screwsby Brian Owen, ShopBot - Handibot Forum
Chad, Sorry I didn't get your PM! I've been out of the office for a couple of days. If you could email your contact info to brian@handibot.com I'll get Andy to work up a quote for some extra switches. However, it's sounding like one of them may be a little bit faulty. That'd be covereby Brian Owen, ShopBot - Handibot Forum
Woody, The chess pieces in the video that you saw were created with a 3D modelling software called "gemomagic". I'd recommend some kind of 3D dimensioned model for your gunstocks. Shopbot sells a 3D probing tool which can map a surface and then recreate it. However the accuracy that you'll need in order to have all of your parts fit I think demands a real 3D model--ShopBby Brian Owen, ShopBot - Handibot Forum
Dave did a demo for a customer today that wanted to engrave and cut out magnesium plates. Handibot did great!by Brian Owen, ShopBot - Handibot Forum
Andy and I did a customer demo today for cutting polycrete. A kind of fiberglass.by Brian Owen, ShopBot - Handibot Forum
demo with customer from Brazil that came by to pick up his new handibot. He's a 6 year shopbotter who is getting back into the CNC game after having to sell his Buddy when he moved to Brazil. We showed him a nice v-carving in painted wood.by Brian Owen, ShopBot - Handibot Forum
We get a lot of requests from prospective customers to demonstrate the capability of the Handibot. I've decided to start recording all these demos to hopefully help other people decide if Handibot is the right tool for them. I thought y'all might also be interested in seeing some of the more unique demos that we do in the shop...could give you some ideas! I'll update this thread evby Brian Owen, ShopBot - Handibot Forum
Well. The upgrade will certainly be more of a money saver than a time saver but I'm hoping that at least a few people will give it a shotby Brian Owen, ShopBot - Handibot Forum
We're working on adding a wider selection of bits to our store--in the meantime a good place to check for router bits is McMaster-Carr : They're a little pricey but deliver fast. Check out their aluminum router bits--they have a 3/16"by Brian Owen, ShopBot - Handibot Forum
Hey You! glad to have you join us. What a nice gift to receive! I've lately taken to making a lot small things out of luan board. Its really easy to take a large sheet and just move the handibot around on top of it to cut out a variety of parts. This might work well for your dollhouse furniture. As you get started, don't hesitate to come in and ask questions! Brianby Brian Owen, ShopBot - Handibot Forum
Speed and feed for aluminum are a little difficult on handibot and shopbot tools. The routers spin so much faster than the spindle on a traditional mill. The first thing that I would suggest is using a single flute cutter. The handibot shipped with a bit kit that included a single flute straight cut bit. This will work relatively well in aluminum. Even better would be a single flute up-cut bit (tby Brian Owen, ShopBot - Handibot Forum
