Never did get import to work from the sketch-up but all the joints that I have tried import into Vcarve great from the 2D .dfx files and when they are first imported everything is selected for full scaling of the joint. Before I had to go to other obligations I tried some half lap joints as while there is nothing "gee whiz" about them they seem to be the workhorse of cnc joints. Inby Mark Evans - Handibot Forum
Eric, great video but it rises a question. Often it is necessary to go .125 past zero to finish a cut cleanly, will this screw that up or does this only affect the move/jog?by Mark Evans - Handibot Forum
If you can't get set screws to work I'd secure them with Sugru after aliment is complete, that will hold tight but can be cut free if you burn one out or have to re zero.by Mark Evans - Handibot Forum
I am having the same problem with the sketch-up import but the .dfx file imported fine. the Maltese cross joint did great, cut it out of 3/4 ply// .73", adjusted the depths accordingly and it did great. Looks like that 10 thousands is about right, might even want to try 7 thousands?by Mark Evans - Handibot Forum
Eric, I think you are dead on. I think of the things I plan to build and the work flow that makes the most since to me for about 70% of the projects it to just cut the sheet to size with a table or panel saw, measure and mark where I'll need the cut for the hardware, and then drop the hanibot over the pencil marks and push cut. Move to the next place needing a cut, load the file for that andby Mark Evans - Handibot Forum
Go on Vetric's site to get this sorted out in your head, Cut3D is a basic "translation" program that takes 3D cad files and produces cut files. Vcarve Pro is a full 2.5D cad/cam program with full editing. In other words with Vcarve you can start from scratch, with Cut3D you have to start with a CAD file and it just produces the paths. Then there is Aspire! Vcarve Pro on steby Mark Evans - Handibot Forum
GiIll, those are impressive. Some people catch on quicker than others. My first cuts where quickly hidden. :-) Eric, I have that one joint you wanted me to try ,I plan on spending some time on it tomorrow and Sunday so if you want to assign a second and /or third I will do what I can...by Mark Evans - Handibot Forum
Vcarve pro and parts works are the same program. Vetric used to prefer ShopBot to have a separate name then they reversed that policy. As to the post processer for cut3d, I would think so as they support ShopBot but I can't say definitely. I'd ask vetric.by Mark Evans - Handibot Forum
OKAY, the frickin lasers are on the way. With 10 of them I may well do it your way AND my way. That way I could see real quickly if I have lost my zero whenever it is parked at 0,0. It is great to have such a geek as you on board! ><by Mark Evans - Handibot Forum
Shut up and take my money! seriously, PM me, I'll buy anything from the ring with a resource list to a ready to install unit. I had a similar idea of mounting them to the sides to mark 0,0 like yours much better as this will be more versatile...by Mark Evans - Handibot Forum
Boris, You would not be able to use this trick for x and y unless you came up with a genius jig because pulling a board along in one axis you need guides along the other. As to the dropping shallow holes with the up cut, yes, yes, yes! I discovered this messing around trying to get better index,,,, I drop a hole at all 4 corners of anything that won't be seriously buggered up by them.by Mark Evans - Handibot Forum
Oh, yeah, that would be earth shattering to a heavy sketch-up user like you. I really need a rainy Sunday afternoon to run through some tutorials on it as it is super powerful and should be easy once you get past some point but it fights me every step. I have my best luck, so far, with a 2d/3d cad program. I do 90% of the work 2d and then push it 3d and make any changes I need to... What arby Mark Evans - Handibot Forum
I did not see anything "earth shattering" in it but it will make sharing easier to have everyone on the same version.....by Mark Evans - Handibot Forum
Yeah, everyone that kickstartered has Vcarve to the best of my knowledge.by Mark Evans - Handibot Forum
I'm in. May be the weekend before I can try some but this is a fine cause to donate a little time to.by Mark Evans - Handibot Forum
Got these numbers from Randy, chief of education for ShopBot yesterday. Good starting point for most materials is_.010-020",and you can try_.005" for some plastics and hard woods. Sure it is a window but so much better than just guessing.by Mark Evans - Handibot Forum
I attended the North Florida ShopBot camp yesterday and wow, just wow. About 4 or 5 times I said "this tidbit was worth the drive". I have several pages of notes and will share as I digest them. Randy from ShopBot was just great and I fully endorse the camp and encourage any of you that can to attend a camp if you can. Randy will most likely remember me as I ask ruffly half the quby Mark Evans - Handibot Forum
Boris : I have the Dell and keyboard as well and consider it the ideal setup for now. Just one day of running it that way and love using the keyboard with it in advanced mode. For those times when I still need to do something from the screen I find the magnifier to be a big help. I need to add the icon to the desktop. Also let me reiterate what Eric said about settings, go ahead and mod thby Mark Evans - Handibot Forum
Bill would it be possible to get the VCP files even if I don't have access to a big SB? I can cut the long pieces with my feed through jig and I have been developing my own way to index large areas, and I think I could do it on the HB. I have one of the KS versions. Thanx Mby Mark Evans - Handibot Forum
I can't answer the what is taking so long, I'd like to know as well but the cutout and inset is so you can replace just the insert as it gets chewed up by the router bit. The jig is designed to be at Zero Y and some (lots really) of cuts will go beyond Zero to finish. I did not bother with the removable part on my feed through jig as the Y stop is simply a piece of 1x3 that I can reposiby Mark Evans - Handibot Forum
Dennis, Pretty much 0,0 said, vetric thinks of it the way you are doing but matters not, move the machine or move /replace materials, T2 will cut what you see in the T2 tile when you have the tile tool up. 6*6 works great for cutting stuff out but you might want to experiment with 5*5 and some overlap then bandsaw to size depending on the complexity of the design. This would also make jiggingby Mark Evans - Handibot Forum
Sorry, maybe I need pictures, I get you have a file that forms a 3x3 grid of tiles but then you lose me. what are you trying to do and what is not happening?by Mark Evans - Handibot Forum
Bill, No, that is not what I was looking for but it is still a great article full of other stuff I need to know. As always if I find something online or discover something on my own I will post it.by Mark Evans - Handibot Forum
Funny, I was poking around there last night. Intresting stuff, good Google search and there is a lot of creative people out there. But what I'm really looking for is general rules. Is there a rule or guide for how long box joints should be? What kind of clearance works best for tenon and pocket? Etc. Thanxby Mark Evans - Handibot Forum
So I'm building a cute little stool for my wife modeled after one found curb side and I'm getting this thing down. No ruined parts, got the tiles thing going. Now it occurs to me that I'm not using it to it's full potential as a good cnc project will tap together and glue. So, my question is, is there a ShopBot or Vetric tutorial on the subject that I've missed orby Mark Evans - Handibot Forum
I second pretty much everything Boris said.by Mark Evans - Handibot Forum

Eric, is that keyboard working well for you? If so, source? Thanx Mby Mark Evans - Handibot Forum
