Okay, I want to upgrade to a V2.0 Handibot so bad that I am willing to give someone a great deal on my Kickstarter version. This unit was one of the original Kickstarter units, but it has gotten most all of the 1.1 upgrades. Comes with updated front and the half shield that comes with that. Also, the full cover is included. Laser alignment tool is included. I have installed the wiring forby Mark Evans - Handibot Forum
No, I don't think you are crazy at all. While I try to not get to emotional about any of it, I agree 100%. Every company has to chose what open means to them the the biggest successes I can think of have been very open. You mentioned several but Arduino and Lulzbot also come to mind. Let's just hope that sometime soon they decide on a open-source model and you can get your creepeby Mark Evans - Handibot Forum

The first really good photo shoot of the 2.0 are up at the G+ owners group and they are generating more questions for me. Is the laser alignment tool from 1.x still usable on 2.0? If not, are we working on something? Can the dust collection be easily removed and reinstalled for use on the accessory base?by Mark Evans - Handibot Forum
Steve, Like any tool, you have to mask its weaknesses and play to its strengths. Tiling is not really onerous once you get the concept down and learn how it is handled in Vcarve. Tiling is a no go for precise carvings as you will never re-position the unit with enough precision to not have the tiles show. For something long with gaps it works well, say a valiance, you can make the tilesby Mark Evans - Handibot Forum
I don't know why you have been ignored Boris but here is my take for what it is worth. FabMo is going to be quite a bit bulkier than V1 so I don't think you will be able to do a 1.x plus FabMo due to a lack of room. On the other hand it has been suggested that they are planing to offer a 1.x to 2.0 trade in program.by Mark Evans - Handibot Forum
This is indeed strange. There is a Vetric forum that is very good. You can contact Vetric directly as well. I have had small anomalies with Vcarve but nothing like this. Have you tried different methods? I find that I'll try to do something one way and it will give me fits, approach it from another direction and everything goes smooth.by Mark Evans - Handibot Forum
Brian, as usual, it sounds like you guys have come up with a good plan. I was thinking of giving someone a good deal on my current handibot and then rolling the $$ into a 2.0. This remains a possibility but it is good to hear you are working out another solution. Sounds good, looking fwd to seeing what you have come up with. Now that 2.0 has been released, are the phone/tablet apps available for download? thanxby Mark Evans - Handibot Forum
Do you (staff) think we could get a Fusion 360 tool path tutorial? I mean it is a great modeling program and free to most of us. There are lots of general purpose modeling tutorials but I'd LOVE to see a Handibot specific tool path tutorial or video.by Mark Evans - Handibot Forum
Ha! I obviously didn't realize that was you when I invited you to join the G+ site. Great little video. I'll be waiting not so patently for an news on the universal tool holder.by Mark Evans - Handibot Forum
All interesting videos but the one thing that really jumped out was the universal non-rotary tool holder shown in the T-shirt video. Would it be possible for you to post files for that or even offer it for sale? thanx Mby Mark Evans - Handibot Forum
Chad: all the limit switches run to the control board, if you know how to work a multi-meter you can unplug the handi and pop the top and check them. I have never seen a schematic on the handi so I just follow the wire. On the kick-starter 1.x we are using mechanical switches so you can take your finger and close either of the switches and see it the reading goes from open to 1-3 ohms when closeby Mark Evans - Handibot Forum
Bill, you are the right place, here and also check the blog once in a while. I can not tell you when 2.0 will ship but I can tell you not to expect it until Ted is happy with it! In my two years here (I got in on the kick-starter) I have rarely seen them make a self imposed deadline. I have come to respect that though as it means that delivering the best thing they can is more important to thby Mark Evans - Handibot Forum
Yes there are longer bits, sorry I am away from my pc for a while but if no one else has chimed in by the time I get back I'll post some sources. Don't forget that besides a longer tool you can also move the router up and down in its base.by Mark Evans - Handibot Forum
Yes, any time you tell the ShopBot software and the handibot is at zero for a particular axis then that becomes the new zero. The handibot has just ever so slightly over 6" of travel in X and 8" in Y, if you want to tile and use an offset zero you will need to set up smaller tiles in Vcarve. They can be any size as long as they are small enough to not run out of travel. In the scenaby Mark Evans - Handibot Forum
I agree with almost everything Brian says above and as good as he is at this stuff I am reluctant to disagree even on small points. Ah, what the heck, take both and do your own experiments and come back and tell us what worked for you. I find two flutes optimum as your chip load is totally whacked anyway, the two flutes will be stronger. And do you have to use a 1/8th? If you can even go uby Mark Evans - Handibot Forum
Great to see that there will be an upgrade path, though it might be worth it to a heavy user to simply dedicate their 1.1 to a particular task and purchase a 2.0by Mark Evans - Handibot Forum
I had to do some goggling for TLA, I don't know if that is a good lead in or not. I'd have to see it expanded out into your actual talking points. Not seeing your crib notes, there is a lot left to my imagination. Looks like a good outline but do you have plenty to fill a 90 minute block? At ten slides that is an average of nine minutes per slide. I know from personal experiance thatby Mark Evans - Handibot Forum
Eric, the last clue I saw was that Ted and company were not happy with what they had come up with to date and were taking two steps back and regrouping on the powered indexer. Also, I believe all their time and effort is going into 2.0 unless they have enough engineers to work both as separate paths. Hopefully, Ted or one of the other staff will give us an update on all things Handibot soby Mark Evans - Handibot Forum
David, thanx so much for the follow-up. I am starting to wrap my head around the workflow, and as I do, I can not help but think that using DeskProto would cut out a lot of unneeded steps. It works great right out of the box in continuous rotation mode, but I have yet to get it to work with other schemes. Something about all of their shopbot drivers thinks the rotational axis is running paralleby Mark Evans - Handibot Forum
Great to see you have the 4/5 axis manual indexer out, now how about some more information? Have you gotten it to work with DeskProto? If so can we get that info? Can someone expound on handing off from Fusion 360? I've been using F360 for several weeks but from the one or two lines you have in the documentation I am lost as to how you would select a view and hand it off to Aspire.by Mark Evans - Handibot Forum
I would love to see an open source Handibot introduction lesson plan. I would keep it handy in case the opportunity ever came up to present it. I don't know your background but putting this together would not be a terribly hard thing and I'd love to help if you pursue it. What age of kids are we talking about and are we talking STEM kids that will get it pretty easily or regularby Mark Evans - Handibot Forum
Not a word, I am assuming that it is a no go. I'll post if anything changes.by Mark Evans - Handibot Forum
Forrest, Just to augment what Brian had to say, for the jobs you described, at commercial quantities, I'd propose purpose built jigs. With pins or notches for stops, you can cut one surface of a 4x4 or 6x6, 8 inches at a time. How long each tile will take is dependent on the complexity of the carving. Cutting picket tops with a quick change jig would be almost as fast as you can feedby Mark Evans - Handibot Forum
