Although I have returned my Developers Edition Handibot, I am still interested in the machine. I'm curious to know if you're any closer to being ready to release the new "Guts" anytime soon and when these will be available in a new model of the Handibot or available as individual components to someone who would like to build their own machine.by gclayton - Handibot App Developers Forum
Eric, I looked at those files again and I don't think, except for the jigs, that the files for the base plate are up to date with the one that is included in the jig kit. Sorry if I am wrong. The files of the models on github haven't been updated for 3 months or more. IMO, the baseplate and aluminum rail should be a separate kit. To say that we have to purchase the entire kit to getby gclayton - Handibot Forum
Eric, I already downloaded the files to cut the wooden rails and spacers. I was wanting info on the aluminum rail that allows for the extra .3" and whether the existing Developer Edition baseplate would work with it. It looks like the x/y zero location may have changed, but that could be worked around, I believe. Yes, I realized that the aluminum rail was drilled and threaded for mountby gclayton - Handibot Forum
Bill, Sorry for not being clearer on my question. What I was trying to ask, if the aluminum Y anti-backlash nut rail could be purchased separately and if it would fit on the existing Developer Edition base plate. You didn't include the file for the base plate so I couldn't determine if there were differences between the new base plate in the kit and the one on the Developer Edition Hanby gclayton - Handibot Forum
Bill, Thanks for putting the files up on github. Got the crv files but could not download the dxf. Kept causing Github to lockup. But I guess I don't really need the dxf file if the crv works. Is it possible to get the rail without purchasing the entire kit? If so how much would it cost? Is the new base required in order to install the new rail if you have the Developer Edition of theby gclayton - Handibot Forum
Mark, You may want to report the problem with the shipping calculation using the link on the Store page for customer service. I hope there is a problem found because the shipping costs being reported to ship this kit is ridiculous. I probably will not buy for that reason.by gclayton - Handibot Forum
Will the specs for all the items in the kit be posted on GitHub?by gclayton - Handibot Forum
This will be my last post regarding this issue. We just don't seem to be able to get our point across. There's more to App development than just creating an app to output some g-code. As stated before, we know we can using the existing software to produce some g-code to create a part! We want to be able to come up with our own front end to the Handibot that actually controls hby gclayton - Handibot Forum
Is it really possible to be backwards compatible with 20 year old hardware? Is ShopBot Tools going to give the new control board to all the previous owners of the 20 year old hardware? No one is asking anyone to release anything before it's ready. But it seems that the new control board has been in planning/development for some time now, hasn't it? It's not easy to embrace anby gclayton - Handibot Forum
Sorry, if I seem to be repeating my points. I understand that you can create gcode files or Opensbp files and send these to the Handibot or any other Shopbot tools machine. However, in order to do this, you have to use the current sb3 software. Bill, Thanks for the follow-up, but as I understand it, the jigs cannot be purchased without the baseplate and other mod items. Is that correct? So all of us that have the Developers Edition will need to purchase the whole kit, even though we may not need the extra .3" at current time.by gclayton - Handibot Forum
Hello DomAAmato, I agree with your sentiments 100%. I purchased my 'Developers Edition' back in Feb with the expectation of having extra "Developer" resources to design apps and possibly a new front end GUI to my liking but found out that is just not the case. The "Developers Edition" is just a standard Handibot that cost us about 2 - 2.5 times what a "Staby gclayton - Handibot Forum

Can we expect the new API anytime soon? IMO ShopBot seems to be moving at a snail's pace getting resources out to Handibot owners. In particular to those of us who purchased the 'Developers Edition' and expected to have the Developer resources to go along with that purchase.by gclayton - Handibot Forum
So, even those of us who purchased the Developers Edition need to buy another base plate and a different Y-axis linear rail and make all the modifications in order to get just .3 inch of additional area and access to the jigs. Seems like more planning should have gone into the Developers Edition prior to making it available.by gclayton - Handibot Forum

That seemed to be the status the last time we heard about when these jigs might be available. I guess I'll just give up and try to make some of my own. Why not just make two sets of plans, one for the kickstarter units and one for production units instead of all the delays? It just seems like there is no emphasis to get things done for the HandiBot. Looking at old threads here in the fby gclayton - Handibot Forum
Still no "final version" of the jigs?by gclayton - Handibot Forum
Well, if I'm reading the description correctly, all we need to do is to take a piece of the material and cut a series of dadoes (at the .375" depth) of the needed test widths, all the way across the test piece so that you can fit the test piece over the edge of the material to be used for the project in order to find the proper fit.by gclayton - Handibot Forum
I found the following info on the Shopbot Tools site and wondered if the same applies to the HandiBot. This info is from the PRS Assembly Manual. QuoteINDUCED CURRENTS - The stepper motors on your tool become significant little generators if they are manually turned. They can generate sizable voltages in your control box if you push the X or Y-axis of your tool around physically. Occasionallyby gclayton - Handibot Forum
Hi WJ, You can download the current ShopBot Control software from the following link: ShopBot Control Software link I purchased the Developer Edition thinking that there was extra developer resources available with that edition but it really is just a standard HandiBot with regular software. I have been going through the current software options to learn how I may develop my own front end control application instead of using the current Sb3.exe windows and forms. One of the things that I don't like about the current software is that the red dialog window is not resizable and I would like to be able to move this anywhere on the screen and make the buttons larger or maybe incorby gclayton - Handibot Forum
Eric, I tried to import your .skp file into VCarve but I am getting the following error msg: "Error occurred while processing data - please check for duplicate lines, crossings etc." This is presented in a messagebox window numerous times. Maybe for every layer being imported? I can't cancel the process and I had to kill VCarve Pro to get out of the import sequence. Myby gclayton - Handibot Forum
I thought it was PartWorks3D that was the equivalent to Cut3D. As I understand it, VCarve Pro is the same as Partworks that ShopBot used to offer.by gclayton - Handibot Forum

After I saw your laser rig I tried to search for some specs on the line lasers and it looks like a line width of about 2mm is the best I could find for a reasonably low cost. I was trying to think of a way to do the laser guide also. I don't happen to have the 3D printer, yet. Sparkfun also has some similar lasers but they cost $8.95 ea. if I remember correctly.by gclayton - Handibot Forum
I finally got around to making my first cuts on my HandiBot today. I was trying to create some toolpaths for some of the Digital Wood Joints that Eric refers to and here are some of my results. Granted, I have a long way to go to perfect my cuts. I don't have any jigs created yet. Just wanted to share what I have been able to do so far. Here is a link to some of my VCarve Toolpath pby gclayton - Handibot Forum
Yes, would also like to know when the v carve files will be available for the jigs. Seems to be taking some time to design a set of jigs. Looking at the pictures of the jigs, what is the purpose of the cutout and insert in the center of this photo: https://plus.google.com/photos/115440322391989403868/albums/5980615248314617073/5980615308624552018?pid=5980615308624552018&oid=115440322391by gclayton - Handibot Forum
