Eric, I've got a few ideas...I've tried a separate ring that clamps around the router like the collar that we sell--but it looked really goofy and just didn't offer enough of an improvement in the placement of the dust foot to be worthy of selling as a product. Bolting to the area around the collet though...I've made a router with a piece bolted there--to run a wby Brian Owen, ShopBot - Handibot Forum
The HDPE wouldn't curl right away--but as it dries out (If you've ever really crushed a piece of HDPE you'll see that it oozes oil), it will begin to curl. I try to always keep a first in, first out policy with HDPE sheets because the longer they sit before being cut and bolted together into a tool, the more risk of warping. For the plenums on my production tools, I just use Baltby Brian Owen, ShopBot - Handibot Forum
You heard him folks--Schimel-co accepting preorders now! Joking aside though--didn't you get some sales on your handibot table a couple years back? I always thought it'd be cool if customers came up with accessories and could make a little side living selling them on the forum here...even accessories for other tools!by Brian Owen, ShopBot - Handibot Forum
Don't you have a handibot accessory store Eric?!by Brian Owen, ShopBot - Handibot Forum
That's great Eric! I've never had a lot of success with various schemes for vacuum hold down with the handibot--but you've really got a good system here. How easy is it to set up for a different cut? Just peel off the rubber and cut a new piece to fit the part you want to make?by Brian Owen, ShopBot - Handibot Forum
OK--I've got the details on this from Sales... If your license for VCarve is less than a year old when the new version is released, then vectric will provide an upgrade at no charge. If your license is older than 1 year, then there is a $150 upgrade charge. To upgrade to Aspire will cost $1300 from a current version of VCarve and $1400 from an older version of VCarve (current being theby Brian Owen, ShopBot - Handibot Forum
The dev team just published an RC yesterday (Release Candidate) I've put it on the tools here in the shop that I use to cut out handibot parts to prove it out and make sure no new bugs have been introduced. It can be downloaded from our github page if you don't want to wait for it to be pushed as an official update--but it is still under testing. you'll just need to .fmp file whby Brian Owen, ShopBot - Handibot Forum
I dunno-- a nice tablet like an ipad is sort of wasted as a fabmo control panel. I've been getting the small samsung tablets from amazon--they're only about $120. The 7" screen is plenty big for controlling your tool.by Brian Owen, ShopBot - Handibot Forum
Yes, Daniel, Please do send the dud plate back when you get a chance. I'm glad to hear that everyone is back up and running now!by Brian Owen, ShopBot - Handibot Forum
Cool--I watch it when I get home tonight Also--FabMo will run GCode (in fact it prefers GCode) so you may not have those same issues with your handibot.by Brian Owen, ShopBot - Handibot Forum
Hmm--what's broken on it? I'm sure we could fix it.by Brian Owen, ShopBot - Handibot Forum
There's been a number of requests from customers in manufacturing spaces to have an onboard touch screen for the handibot. One of them recently paid me to throw together a custom app that will engrave serial numbers on parts in their shop--they also wanted a tablet that was set up to run the tool. Yesterday evening I decided it'd be fun to make an actual tablet holder that attaches toby Brian Owen, ShopBot - Handibot Forum
I messed with it a little bit last night--and as far as I can tell, it's only for making toolpaths out of gerber files that you design in another editor. You aren't meant to do board design in the app. But there are a number of free gerber editors out there I'm sure.by Brian Owen, ShopBot - Handibot Forum
At Maker Faire in San Mateo I spent a little while talking to the Carbide 3D guys--they make the Nomad, another cool, portable/desktop cnc: Their's is a little more geared specifically for pcb milling--and they've created a web based pcb milling app. I asked if they minded if I shared it with y'all and they said we're all welcome to use it. I'll give it a shot later on.by Brian Owen, ShopBot - Handibot Forum
Ryan has just uploaded a new version of the software to the server that sends updates to the tool. A factory reset followed by a normal update should set things right. I've got instructions for performing the factory reset here: Once complete, you'll need to connect your tool to a network to allow it to fetch the new software. When an update is ready, you'll be able to runby Brian Owen, ShopBot - Handibot Forum
Yes! I am going include a longer cord--actually it will be an extension cord. There will be a connector outside of the electronics enclosure that will be easy to unplug if you want to remove the plate temporarily. The new version looks good! Just finished cutting the parts. I need one more component that I've had overnighted to me--so I should be able to ship everyone's stuff out byby Brian Owen, ShopBot - Handibot Forum
Ok--we're working on all of these things as I type this It looks like there was a software version released a little bit ahead of schedule this weekend--which is probably what was installed on your tool when you performed the update. Factory reset should work and the software on the web is good now. I'll go into more detail in the other thread. Quick-Bit wise--it looks like I was thby Brian Owen, ShopBot - Handibot Forum
Daniel, No firmware update should be required. I'm communicating with someone else about this over email as well. I'm admittedly new to assembling these and I'm double-checking everything I've got here right now. When you have yours hooked up, check the status of input #5 (right below the digital position readout on the right side of the screen). Is it already illuby Brian Owen, ShopBot - Handibot Forum
Carmen, I've done a little bit of lino-cut printing with the handibot in the past-- I'm hoping to cut some blocks for multi-color Tshirt printing soon--but I'll need to make a jig to keep everything aligned. I haven't had a chance to test out the vinyl cutter yet--I'm currently distracted by trying to learn how to write apps for a few special customer applicby Brian Owen, ShopBot - Handibot Forum
Lance, If you manage to get those little ball bearings back into their races, you'll have succeeded where I've failed many many times! Instead--how about I send you a new bearing block. If you could look on the side of the bearing and send me a PM with the part number and your address--I'll get one on the way to you. Brianby Brian Owen, ShopBot - Handibot Forum
OK--feel free to throw tomatoes at me--I just talked with sales and the version of VCarve that we've worked out with Vectric to sell at a lower price comes with the stipulation that only ShopBot post processors can be installed. So--those post processors that I just linked to will be impossible to install in your software. Back to the drawing board with software guys...by Brian Owen, ShopBot - Handibot Forum
I've put them up here: Here are vectric's instructions for accessing post processors:by Brian Owen, ShopBot - Handibot Forum
Good morning everyone! Just FYI--a new version of the fabmo minder was released recently. We've discovered a few bugs in the latest release and are rolling back to the previous version. If you find that your minder isn't locating your tool, I'd recommend going to your app store and updating the app.by Brian Owen, ShopBot - Handibot Forum
Karl, Check out this doc (from the docs page): A few quick steps should do it. Let me know how it goes!by Brian Owen, ShopBot - Handibot Forum
Just a follow up on this--I was working on a project last night (kinda neat--a customer wanted a vise for holding little blanks for those brass stamps you use to wax seal envelopes and I was machining a set of vise jaws for holding round objects)...and I was almost done with the job when I got the "waiting for fabmo..." I power cycled the tool but had lost my position, pretty much meansby Brian Owen, ShopBot - Handibot Forum
The neoprene is bonded to a piece of acrylic (old handibots had it bonded directly to the HDPE which almost invariably didn't hold)--you can remove the acrylic and use it as a template to cut your pads out. You may even be able to find some adhesive backed neoprene sheet--over here I'd look at mcmaster.com, not sure what the typical industrial automation vendor is in Australia...but thby Brian Owen, ShopBot - Handibot Forum
Your confidence was waning?!?! Just kidding--I know I owe everyone more accessories asap. Hoping to find time to work on them at the end of the day is always what keeps me going in the shop during the day!by Brian Owen, ShopBot - Handibot Forum
Thanks for the kind words! If there's anything I can do to help out--or help you find a new tool, let me know!by Brian Owen, ShopBot - Handibot Forum
Wazza, I'll look at what the shipping options are to Australia on the store--international shipping is always shockingly expensive--plus the customs fees in some countries are outrageous. Our low cost option, FedEx Ground, doesn't do international shipments--so we have to use Express for those unfortunately. I can get you a new set of rubber pads though. I'm gonna fby Brian Owen, ShopBot - Handibot Forum
We've tried a number of options for alternative brains for the handibot--beagle bone, raspberry pi...and a few others that I can remember. Edison was the best candidate when we launched a year ago but we've been periodically evaluating the alternatives as they release new versions. I think that the Edison has been OK...the internal antenna could be a bit better--so I think it won'tby Brian Owen, ShopBot - Handibot Forum
