Just got off the phone on an interesting tech support call that I thought might be interesting to y'all... Customer was loading files into fabmo-- on some files the tool would go to the start point of the cut dive down--then immediately lift up and go back home and end the job...skipping the whole file. Some jobs worked and other didn't...so I looked at a set of his files. In theby Brian Owen, ShopBot - Handibot Forum
Oh--interesting. There was an .fmp there last night (which I actually tried to install but had other problems)--I would imagine that we're re-packaging the update and will have another version up shortly.by Brian Owen, ShopBot - Handibot Forum
Nice Dan! Here are the T-nuts: 98001A130 The connector is a WAGO : The WAGO catalog looks like they use a distributor model only---I'd be happy to sell you a pair for $8 (they're a little pricey, I know...). You could also find any 4 pin connector you want on digikey--the motors don't draw a huge amount of current so I think you'd have lots of compact options.by Brian Owen, ShopBot - Handibot Forum
Alright Mark--I tried to start writing about joinery but I didn't even get out of the intro and had already written something way too long for a blog! This is gonna have to be a multi-part thing... but here's a start:by Brian Owen, ShopBot - Handibot Forum
For sure--I spent some time pondering this at the beginning of the year--but was discouraged a bit by the expense of the equipment required to make ADA compliant braille signs. In "olden days" braille signs could be made by milling away an area--leaving raised cylindrical pegs for the dots. However, modern ADA compliant signs are made by drilling holes of a very specific depth intoby Brian Owen, ShopBot - Handibot Forum
Have you tried deleting both copies of the duplicate apps? The new fabmo update established a number of "built in" apps that were protected from deletion. Unfortunately some older copies of the apps remain along side the new (undelete-able) versions in the dashboard. I've found that it is possible to delete one copy but not the other.by Brian Owen, ShopBot - Handibot Forum
Website acting kinda funny-- 'til we fix it--here they areby Brian Owen, ShopBot - Handibot Forum
Oh--man--It just occurred to me what you meant as I was driving to the shop--I'm so sorry! When I do long things (signs in my case as well)--I just use any edge that is perpendicular to the lumber when I have the tool set in place. Probably the easiest to see would be the inside edge of the yellow plate at the front of the tool. What I typically do is pre-mark the board with a tape mby Brian Owen, ShopBot - Handibot Forum
Yep, The groove carved into the acrylic at the front of the tool is exactly 6" from the pointer carved into the same piece. Mark through the cutout at the groove, slide the pointer to the mark, lock the tool down, start the next cut.by Brian Owen, ShopBot - Handibot Forum
It should be possible to navigate up a level and choose your external media--I'll have a tablet in hand either later today or first thing tomorrow and I can check for you.by Brian Owen, ShopBot - Handibot Forum
Mark, I'll have to check that one out. I recently bought Make: Introduction to 3D Carving and got a few chapters into that. Too touchy feely for my tastes (though I'm definitely not their audience)--will have to take a look at this one.by Brian Owen, ShopBot - Handibot Forum
That would be a fun article! I'd definitely like to put something together about what we've learned from using so many different strategies at handibot. Many times, design of joinery comes down to trying to predict what will be the first thing to fail--either due to excessive stress or fatigue. HDPE is a relatively stable plastic...but its properties do change with age. It's imby Brian Owen, ShopBot - Handibot Forum
Dan, For sure--that would solve that problem. Though it can't get too thick for the bit won't be able to reach the material without bottoming out the pressure foot. Fun problem though--problems with lots of constraints are good!by Brian Owen, ShopBot - Handibot Forum
Here's the first pass at it. The problem was that the big bottom part collided with the inside of the handibot base..limiting travel.by Brian Owen, ShopBot - Handibot Forum
One option would be to kind of combine the router collar (the little plastic ring that can clamp onto the router body) and the lower half of the router bracket...into a move-able spot to clip on the dust foot. I've done this a couple of times for other reasons but had never really been happy with the way it turned out. Another option is to redesign the dust foot. For 2.5D cuts on sheet gby Brian Owen, ShopBot - Handibot Forum
This may or may not be of help...but there is a hidden app in fabmo that should eventually allow a user to connect a camera to their tool. The code is here: it's only visible in fabmo when you look at apps from the configurations menu. I'll find out where we are on software position correction and update here. As mentioned above--the rollers are all but done...we'd been hoby Brian Owen, ShopBot - Handibot Forum
CL, Sorry to hear that you've been having a rough time... I think that we could get those rollers out by the end of the year--they were designed as part of a larger setup (cardboard cutting tool with a pressure foot and a new app....etc...) but no reason they couldn't be sold separately.by Brian Owen, ShopBot - Handibot Forum
VERY interesting!! nice work! There are a couple of updates to FabMo being worked on that may make that process even easier for you. One thing that could help a lot is the ability to skew, shift or rotate a cut in real time. We've been thinking about that more as a way to correct for uneven surfaces when depth really matters (circuit board engraving)--but it could work just as well in thby Brian Owen, ShopBot - Handibot Forum
rasbldrs, We'll be here for you if you need any assistance over the weekend!by Brian Owen, ShopBot - Handibot Forum
Dan, That sounds like the end of the motor shaft hitting the plastic holder at the far end of the tool. That plastic piece is there to prevent the motor shaft from "whipping" as it spins--it hasn't been a problem for the shorter handibot motors...but once you get over 18" or so, any wobble in the shaft will resonate and get extreme enough to make the motor stall during qby Brian Owen, ShopBot - Handibot Forum
Yea--its one of the crazier things we've ever asked a customer to do--I really didn't want to replace the whole hood--the cost of a new hood would have bumped the price of the upgrade up--and I already felt like it was getting high...and to be honest I think its kind of cool that the handibot is used to modify itself. And--now with better large part cutting ability--people should beby Brian Owen, ShopBot - Handibot Forum
Dan, I put a .crv file with all views of the LST base up on the wiki as well: the scale is 1:1--so it should be perfect for designing jigs...let me know if you'd prefer another format. ....I'll put a 3D STP model up too actually.by Brian Owen, ShopBot - Handibot Forum
Ok--just updated the wiki page to have both the .sbp file and the .crv file for the mod.by Brian Owen, ShopBot - Handibot Forum
rasbldrs, the .sbp is the cut file for making the hood modification--it can be loaded directly into your handibot and run to make the cut. Lemme dig up the .crv and I can stick that up there too for anyone that wants to make adjustments.by Brian Owen, ShopBot - Handibot Forum
Ah Dan--I'm sorry about that. I'm about to go box up some bearings for you right now. They'll leave on today's express shipment. Brown-White-Green-Yellow from left to right--in the place of the original Y motor I'd meant to include the doc on how to install the accessory motor cable (that is shipped with the rotary axis). Those extra thingies in the box--They'by Brian Owen, ShopBot - Handibot Forum
Dan, I should have installed bearings on the rails of the tool before sending it out--if there aren't any new THK bearing blocks on the long rails of your base--I'll overnight a set to you tomorrow. Brianby Brian Owen, ShopBot - Handibot Forum
Ohh! yea! Sorry--forgot the first question-- Yes, all the adventure edition handibots since this March have been built with compatible rails--so I've got THK rails in stock in the sizes required for the Adventure Edition's 8" base--they'd cost about $50 a piece--so $100 for the set. I don't have them up on the store yet...but that could be an option if people wanted.by Brian Owen, ShopBot - Handibot Forum
Well--if you're near the tool with the computer your using for design--you can send them files from that comptuer. I use dropbox--which would allow you to load files from the cloud if they were synced from the the computer that you use for design. A third option is a micro-SD card that can be inserted into the port on the tablet that is visible from the top when you have the tablet flippedby Brian Owen, ShopBot - Handibot Forum
Yea--we're not currently working on an extended version of the accessory base...but the ELB (Large Sheet Tool) is built onto sticks of 1.5" T-slot Extrusion--which would make it pretty easy to build an accessory base onto the tool frame by picking up some pre-cut pieces and corner joints from somewhere like McMaster or Misumi. The T-slots in the accessory base are spaced at 1.5" asby Brian Owen, ShopBot - Handibot Forum
I don't have one up on the store on its own--its also kinda tough because the holder is built specifically for the Tab E dimensions. However--I've got the cut files up here: if you wanna take a crack at it!by Brian Owen, ShopBot - Handibot Forum
