Trademark Policy For Handibot
We’re delighted when people use, develop, and spread the word about the Handibot® Smart Power Tool, but we want to make sure that when people see the Handibot trademark they can expect to receive goods and services that are consistent with our ethos.
That’s why we’ve written this policy.
ShopBot Tools, Inc. (“ShopBot”) is the exclusive owner in the rights in the word ‘Handibot’ and its design, as well as other rights listed below (‘the Marks’). The Marks are registered in some countries, and we assert our unregistered rights worldwide.
Whenever you use our Marks, you must do so in accordance with this policy (although we do not try to control any uses which are legal under ‘fair use’ and similar rules, please consider this policy before any use of the Marks, even if you believe those rules apply).
The purpose of a trademark is to give purchasers assurance that a product or service is from a particular source, and that they can expect it be up to standards required by that source. This policy only permits you to use the Marks when we can be sure that the assurance can be maintained.
We also want to encourage the development of communities around the Handibot Smart Power Tool: communities developing the hardware, the firmware, and the software, as well as designs that can be made using the Handibot Smart Power tool. To help you do that, we’ve also developed a Handibot Community logo you can use to show your support and involvement.
Handibot Trademark
We want to ensure that any product or service you see bearing the Handibot name or logo has been supplied by ShopBot directly, or by an authorised supplier who is required to comply with our rigorous standards. Therefore, you may not apply the Handibot name or logo to any product or service except where it has been specifically supplied by us, or subject to a written license agreement with us, or in the following limited circumstances:
Services not endorsed by us, but relating to Handibot products
If you are providing services relating to our products, please refer to the product name in full, and do not use it at the beginning of the descriptor:
Permitted | Not Permitted |
---|---|
Training for Handibot Smart Power Tool | Handibot Training |
Compatible with Handibot Smart Power Tool | Handibot Compatible |
Works with Handibot Power Tool | Handibot Accessory |
The former uses are permitted, but please ensure that your description is correct! If your accessory doesn’t work with the Handibot Smart Power Tool you may find yourself with claims from consumers and from consumer protection authorities.
The latter uses are not permitted without a specific license from us. These rules also apply to any use of words confusingly similar to ‘Handibot’.
Clearly, you cannot say things like “Certified for use with Handibot Smart Power Tool” unless we have given you such a certification.
We would also appreciate, where appropriate, an acknowledgment of our trademarks in the following form:
Handibot® is a registered trademark of Shopbot Tools, Inc.
If you see any violations of these rules, please contact us at trademark@shopbottools.com.
Handibot Community Mark
We also have a Handibot Community Mark. This is intended for use by organisations that support the Handibot Community, and is free to use for not-for-profit organisations within the guidelines set out below.
We’re grateful to everyone who contributes to our community by sharing their knowledge and expertise, through using and developing our tools, making how-to guides and videos, arranging and managing local communities, and setting up sites on social networking services. That’s why we’ve established the community marks to help you promote these services.
The Handibot Community Mark may be displayed in print or electronic form so long as the logo is used as provided without change, except in the case of proportional size adjustments to fit within a reasonable space.

Domain Names and Social Networking Handles
You may not use the word ‘Handibot’ or anything confusingly similar to it as part of any domain name (at any level) or social networking handle or username.
You may use the community mark on social networking pages and as part of a domain name provided that you comply with the Community Guidelines, and provided that you qualify the use of the mark as a fair representation of what it is used for. For example, ‘<communitymark> of Seattle’ would be acceptable, if your organisation genuinely represents the Handibot Community in Seattle. However, it would be unlikely that you would be able to use ‘<communitymark> of North America’ in a representative way. Any disputes will be dealt with in accordance with the Community Guidelines.
